In the evening game in Frederikshavn Team Ukraine and Team Japan met for their first game of the tournament.

The two teams shared a goalless first period, but in second period the Ukrainians scored three goals in under four minutes and decided the game in their favour. The goalscorers: Olexi Yevtiekhov and Mykhailo Haponenko (2).

The Japanese never gave up and found a little hope in the third period when Hyuga Miura reduced the Ukrainian lead to 3-1. But Japan never came closer and Team Ukraine sealed the game with an empty-netter.

Shots on goal: Ukraine 37, Japan 24.
